Research by the Piezo Institute is currently focused on miniaturisation and integration of piezoelectric materials into MEMS devices, often based on Si technology.
Institute members are also researching multifunctional devices such as multiple sensors or intelligent structures, in which the piezoelectric properties are combined with other properties to obtain new or improved devices.
Research areas in the Piezo Institute include:
- Material characterisation
- Chemistry and process engineering
- Solid state physics
- Piezo metrology and standards
- Micro and nanotechnologies
- MEMS devices
- Numerical modelling
- Device design, manufacture and testing
