Education and training

The Piezo Institute organises Masters and PhD qualifications in the development and application of piezoelectric materials, technologies and devices.

Skills and education provided by the Piezo Institute are essential for scientists and engineers working in:

  • Materials science
  • Chemistry
  • Physics
  • Electronics
  • Mechanics
  • Systems engineering

The Piezo Institute helps to equip the European work force for jobs with:

  • Materials manufacturers
  • University laboratories
  • Research centres
  • In industries such as automotive and electronics

Masters Degrees

More than15 Masters Degrees in nine countries have been identified as compatible with the Piezo Institute joint education programme, which is the first of its kind in Europe.

These Masters Degrees are open to students with a Bachelors Degree or equivalent in materials science, physics, engineering or chemistry.

Internships, supported by partner companies and universities are a key feature of the Masters Degree.

Doctorates

The Piezo Institute offers PhD opportunities with Europe’s leading universities. In most cases, funding is available to enable students to be financially independent.

PhD students will work under the supervision of at least two Piezo Institute scientists from member organisations.

The Piezo Institute PhD is open to students with a Masters Degree or equivalent. Students can request help with their applications from a Piezo Institute scientist.

The Piezo Institute promotes joint PhDs and facilitates exchanges between partner universities.

Curricula

The Piezo Institute is creating a curriculum and recommended subjects for the development of skills, knowledge and expertise in piezo technologies.

Topics under development include:

  • Processes for ferroelectric and piezoelectric fabrication
  • Integration of piezo materials with microsystems technologies
  • Materials modelling and simulation
  • Development of sensors, transducers and actuators
  • Application of piezo technologies

The Piezo Institute also offers short courses and tutorials to academic and industrial members.
