Energy materials: electro- and photo-chemical interfaces and devices
7-9 September 2010
Department of Chemistry, Christopher Ingold Lecture Theatre, University College London, WC1E 6BT, London, UK
This two-days workshop brings together experimentalists, theorists and computational scientists working in the broad area of energy materials.
Topics covered are:
• Materials for hydrogen and energy storage
• Materials for (photo)-electrochemical energy conversion
• Materials for energy harvesting
The workshop will foster the dialogue and collaboration between experiment and theory. The participation of industrial scientists is also promoted.
NPL - a founding member of the Piezo Institute - are sponsoring this event.

ISFD 10 (International Symposium on Ferroic Domains)
20-24 Sept 2010
FZU, Prague
The series of International Symposia on Ferroic Domains and Micro-to Nanoscopic Structures (ISFD‘s) is devoted to phenomena originating to basic and applied aspects of structural changes in condensed matter connected with breaking of crystal symmetry.
The scope of ISFD‘s covers in particular:
• Static and dynamical properties of domain structures and twinning in ferroelectric, ferroelastic and multiferroic solids and in mesoscopic phases
• Characterisation of natural or artificial ferroic, modulated, relaxor or hierarchical domain-like structures by direct space imaging and diffraction techniques
• Applications based on domain phenomena

UK's Institute of Physics : Physical Acoustics Group Tutorial Day and AGM
23 September 2010
Institute of Physics, 76 Portland Place, London W1B 1NT
This year the Physical Acoustics Group Tutorial Day will cover Ultrasonic Transduction.
The following speakers will provide the delegates with a thorough resumé of this interesting science:
Dr Matthew Clark (Nottingham University) - 'Laser ultrasonic transducers'
Prof David Hutchins (Warwick University) – ‘Electromagnetic and capactive transducers’
Prof Markys Cain (NPL) - ‘An introduction to piezo materials and devices: modern measurement methods’
The Physical Acoustics Group was formed in 1984 to foster the many aspects of physical acoustics and ultrasonics that contribute to fundamental science and its applications.

Electrospinning – Principles, Practise and Possibilities
24 November 2010
Institute of Physics, London, UK
Electrospinning is a platform technology for producing novel nanofibrous materials with a high surface to volume ratio, significant fibre interconnectivity and microscale interstitial spaces.
Electrospun fibres are of high interest in a diverse range of applications ranging from cell biology and tissue engineering, through filtration to power and optoelectronic devices.
This one-day meeting will reflect the multidisciplinary nature of the science involved with and supported by electrospinning. It will be of interest to scientists from the life and physical sciences, engineering and application technologists.
Abstract submission for oral and poster presentations is now open
Organised by the IOP Dielectrics Group
Co-sponsored by the IOP Polymer Physics Group and the Macro Group

Euromat 2011
12-15 Sept 2011
Montpellier, France
The 2011 European Congress on Advanced Materials and Processes (Euromat) will focus on the links between materials science and its applications, and between academia and industry.
The biennial conference is a major event for the European materials community.
Submission of abstracts – key dates
• July 2010 – Guideline for authors - submission of abstracts
• Jan 2011 – Deadline for abstracts submission
• Mar 2011 – Confirmation of authors and preliminary program
Call for symposia
Those interested in organising a symposium should submit their idea to the Scientific Committee or to the Organising Societies (contacts below).
Proceedings
There will be no publication of a complete set of proceedings, but it is anticipated that a number of journals may decide to base special issues on particular topics or symposia.
Other activities
As well as research being presented there will be:
• An exhibition for materials related products and processing equipment will be held in parallel with the conference
• A jobs fair is also planned
